UK South Asian Bloggers Meet
‘A mere change in state of mind can be a life changer…’
7th of Feb 2015, the day of the meet, for me, was an eye opener in many ways than one. I met a powerful set of voices, some hidden, some upfront, yet every single one a plus.
I had left home that morning, not knowing what to expect. I had been feeling tired, slightly sleep-lagged as a result of having stayed up late the previous night. I was on day 9 of my 30 day blogging challenge (to which I am very much committed), struggling to place my priorities right, woke up reluctantly, got ready and left.
At the very door, after a comfortable yet brief welcoming greeting, I made my way up the lift, following the thoughtful directions given. Once up the stairs, again, warm welcoming smiles greeted me with friendly bright gestures. Tea and coffee were ready along with pastry choices. Finding my way towards the comfy seats, I set my bag down and headed for the hot refreshments.
Very soon, the place was filled with enthusiastic bloggers and other blogging enthusiasts.
What followed was an intriguing discussion about writing as a career and the role of ethnic minorities in the media, the facts backed by life experiences, the inherent message that, one should not be judged merely because of one’s origins and undoubtedly one should follow one’s heart, especially so when it comes to career choices.
This paved the way towards many of us becoming involved, pitching in with our own experiences and stories. What came through strongly was the voice we all had within us, the connect we had towards one another; subdued due to other demands, pressure in life.
The drive towards a better tomorrow is within us all. It simply needs a platform, a connect.
So many voracious, talented bloggers, all of whom incidentally happened to be women, proved it to one and all that they very well deserve their places and are very much going to become the voice of the future.
After a well thought-out delicious spread of a lunch, we all again gathered together for workshops which comprised of talks and discussion by Pierre Far (Google), helpful WordPress insights by Rafi Akbar which touched base with many aspects of blogging.
A few golden words, when it comes to blogging, which have come through to me, as crucial messages are that –
- know your audience, learn what they want.
dive into google, look hard, you will find many answers.
and most importantly be yourself, be sincere, be unapologetic.
Looking forward to it..
